Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born at Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her Winona in honor of her hometown. His father Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder's father was born into the Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. She is the younger sister of Uria and two half-siblings Jubal as well as Sunyata. Ryder moved with her family to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. They lived in a place without electricity. Ryder read a lot due to the lack of television. At the age of twelve, Ryder joined the American Conservatory Theatre to take acting classes. Lucas was released in 1986 and Ryder, then just 15 years old, was offered an acting job as a lead actor. Ryder suffered from bullying throughout high school. Her hope was that the acting profession would change this. However, it didn't happen. It didn't stop her from making plans for her future. Her breakthrough came through Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in 1988. Ryder had a successful role in numerous films. In 1993 Ryder was twice nominated for Academy Awards. One of them for her role In The Age of Innocence.
